Mansfield H. Brock Jr. was a visionary leader whose contributions laid the foundation for Bermuda College as we know it today. Appointed as the College’s first Chief Executive Officer (1974–1977), he played a pivotal role in shaping its early curriculum and ensuring its programs met the evolving needs of Bermuda’s workforce. Under his leadership, the College integrated three existing institutions—the Bermuda Hotel and Catering College, the Bermuda Technical Institute, and the Academic Sixth Form Centre—into a unified institution, setting the stage for its future growth.
A distinguished educator, Mr. Brock was a Physics and Mathematics teacher at The Berkeley Institute before serving as Headmaster of Sandys Secondary School. His impact extended beyond academia; he held key government and financial leadership roles, including Permanent Secretary of Education, Financial Secretary of Bermuda, and Chairman/CEO of the Bermuda Monetary Authority. His service earned him the prestigious title of Commander of the British Empire (CBE) from Her Majesty the Queen.
A lifelong advocate for education and public service, Mr. Brock’s legacy continues to inspire generations of Bermudians.
Dr. George Leslie Cook’s distinguished career in education and leadership has left an enduring legacy at Bermuda College and beyond. Serving as the College’s President from 1992 to 2001, he played a pivotal role in shaping the institution’s academic framework, expanding opportunities for students, and strengthening its reputation as Bermuda’s premier post-secondary institution. [Before his presidency, he held key leadership roles as Head of Academic Studies, Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Science, and Vice-President, ensuring a steadfast commitment to academic excellence.
Dr. Cook’s dedication to education extended far beyond Bermuda. As a tenured Assistant Professor at Simon Fraser University and a long-time advocate for adult education through Canada’s Frontier [] College, he dedicated his life to fostering knowledge, equity, and opportunity. His impact was recognized in 2001 when he was named President Emeritus of Bermuda College, followed by his induction as a Fellow of Bermuda College in 2009.
A lifelong learner and mentor, Dr. Cook’s legacy also includes his contributions to the broader community. From his service with the Hamilton Rotary Club to his decades-long involvement with the Bermuda Islands Pipe Band, his influence has reached far beyond the classroom.
Dr. Duranda Greene made history as the first female and first alumna President of Bermuda College, serving a record-breaking 16 years. During her 38-year tenure, she played a pivotal role in expanding academic programs, securing international accreditation, and strengthening partnerships with overseas institutions.
Beyond the College, Dr. Greene has been a leader in education and community development, serving on local and international boards. She continues to give back in retirement, supporting education reform and the Bermuda College Foundation.
Her outstanding contributions have earned her numerous honors, including recognition as a 2023 Black History Month Honoree and Grand Marshal of the Bermuda Day Parade.
Bermuda College’s Distinguished Alumnus Award is presented to alumni who have demonstrated a longstanding and exemplary commitment to their careers and communities, thereby bringing special honour to our institution through their outstanding achievements.
Dr. Emery is celebrated for her groundbreaking contributions to healthcare in Bermuda. As the nation’s first female Bermudian obstetrician, she has over 28 years of private practice experience. Currently, she leads as Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology for the Bermuda Hospital Board.
Board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as a graduate of The Berkeley Institute, her impressive academic journey includes earning a B.Sc. in Pharmacy (Cum Laude) from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, a Master’s in Management and Human Relations from Webster University, and a Doctor of Medicine from Wake Forest University, followed by a residency at McGill University
Beyond her clinical achievements, Dr. Emery is a passionate advocate for reproductive health education and diabetes awareness, exemplifying the excellence and community commitment ][championed by Bermuda College.
Rees Fletcher is a celebrated insurance executive whose 33-year career was defined by his leadership in underwriting and executive management. Over his distinguished tenure, he held pivotal roles at ACE Bermuda (now Chubb Bermuda), serving as President and CEO before retiring as Chairman in March 2016. In these positions, he oversaw key product lines—including Excess Liability, Professional Lines, Property, and Political Risk—while managing portfolios for Fortune 500 companies and international clients.
An alumnus of Bermuda College and Warwick Academy, Mr. Fletcher began his career as an underwriter and swiftly advanced to senior leadership roles. His contributions extended beyond his executive positions as he served on various industry boards, helping to shape Bermuda’s re-insurance landscape. His legacy of strategic insight, operational excellence, and unwavering commitment to the industry make him a truly deserving honoree.
Chief Justice Larry Mussenden is celebrated for his lifelong dedication to justice and public service in Bermuda. Beginning his education at Prospect Primary School and Warwick Academy, he earned a Diploma in Data Processing from Bermuda College. He later advanced his studies in Computer Science and Business.
His distinguished career spans military service in the Bermuda Regiment—he retired as a Major—to a remarkable legal journey in both the public and private sectors. After studying law in London, he practiced as a lawyer in Bermuda and then he served as Attorney General and Minister of Justice, modernizing Bermuda’s justice system. His leadership extended beyond the courtroom through significant roles with the Bermuda Football Association and international football committees, including a decade as Chairman of the FIFA Appeals Committee.
In 2016, he became Director of Public Prosecutions. In 2020, he was appointed a Puisne Judge of the Supreme Court before ascending to Chief Justice in 2024. Today, he supports the member and staff of the Judiciary and presides over cases in the Commercial and Civil Courts, ensuring fair and timely resolutions for all.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Chief Justice Mussenden is being honored as a Distinguished Alumnus of Bermuda College.
Dr. Malcolm Brock is celebrated as a distinguished Bermuda College Alumni for his exceptional academic and professional achievements, which have amplified Bermuda’s global presence. A proud former student of Bermuda College, his academic journey culminated in earning the honor of a Rhodes Scholarship—an accolade that reflects his intellectual brilliance and dedication to excellence.
Dr. Brock’s illustrious medical career is highlighted by his role as the inaugural Dr. E. F. Gordon Endowed Professor at Johns Hopkins University, where he specializes in thoracic surgery and cancer research. His pioneering work in molecular profiling for cancer patients has earned international acclaim and has significantly advanced the field of medical science.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Brock is an inspiring figure in the community. As a Corange Science Speaker and dedicated mentor, he continues to motivate young scholars and professionals, exemplifying the transformative power of education, innovation, and service.
In recognition of his remarkable contributions, Dr. Brock has been selected as a Distinguished Alumnus of Bermuda College.
Dr. Steede is recognized for his exceptional contributions to psychology, research, and academia and for his transformative impact on Bermuda’s market and social research sectors. A graduate of The Berkeley Institute and proud Bermuda College graduate with an Associate Degree in Arts, his academic journey continued at the University of Waterloo (Honours BA), and the University of Sussex in the UK—where he earned both a Master’s degree with distinction and a Doctorate in Psychology.
With expertise in research methods and statistics, Dr. Steede has taught at the University of Sussex and published in leading international psychology journals. As Owner and Director of Research at Global Research, he brings nearly two decades of experience designing and leading comprehensive studies for diverse clients, including the Bermuda Hospitals Board, Bermuda Tourism Authority, and more than 50 government departments.
His career exemplifies academic excellence, professional leadership, and a strong commitment to community development, making him a deserving honoree.
Gino Smith is a respected reinsurance executive whose 25-year career spans three continents and six countries. Born in Bermuda, his journey from a challenging adolescence to industry leadership reflects resilience, the power of community support, and education’s transformative impact.
After overcoming early challenges, Gino graduated from the Berkeley Institute and enrolled at Bermuda College, where he found direction and a strong academic foundation. Through an articulation agreement, he transferred to St. John’s University, graduating as Valedictorian. During his time at Bermuda College, he also served in the Royal Bermuda Regiment, becoming a commissioned officer after graduating from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He later enhanced his leadership skills through Harvard Business School’s Program for Leadership Development.
Gino built a distinguished career with senior roles at AXA XL Re and Axis Re, including serving as Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) for AXA XL Re’s European and Latin American operations. His work took him to Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Bermuda, Brazil, and Switzerland, where he gained invaluable global experience. His accolades, such as “Young Reinsurance Person of the Year” (2007) and “Future Industry Leader” (2008), reflect his industry impact. Now an Independent Consultant and Board member, including at the Bermuda Monetary Authority, he is dedicated to mentoring emerging professionals and making a difference wherever he can.
His story embodies transformation and leadership, inspiring others with his commitment to excellence, education, and community.
Beza Dagnachew is recognized for her exceptional contributions to healthcare and education in Bermuda. A proud graduate of Bermuda College, her transformative education launched her successful career as an Infection Preventionist and Nursing Instructor.
Mr. Jason Hayward is celebrated as a distinguished Bermuda College Alumni for his outstanding contributions to Bermuda’s workforce and governance. A graduate with an Associate Degree in Business Administration, he has leveraged his education to emerge as a transformative leader in the community.
His career spans influential roles—from serving as President of the Bermuda Public Services Union to his current positions as a Member of Parliament and Minister of Economy and Labour. Throughout his journey, Mr. Hayward has consistently championed initiatives that enhance the lives of Bermudians through dedicated advocacy, innovative policy development, and robust economic strategies.
Mr. Hayward’s success underscores the vital role Bermuda College plays in nurturing local talent and preparing graduates for impactful careers. His commitment to service, leadership, and community development makes him a truly deserving recipient of this honor.
Taiyana Allen is recognized for her exceptional academic achievements and contributions to Bermuda’s actuarial and insurance sectors. As one of Bermuda College’s inaugural dual enrollment students, she earned an Associate of Science in Actuarial Science with merit in 2016 while concurrently graduating from CedarBridge Academy as valedictorian. Ms. Allen then attended Georgia State University and completed dual Bachelor’s degrees in Actuarial Science and Finance in 2019 and dual Master’s degrees in Actuarial Science and Data Analytics in 2022. Since 2020, she has been an actuarial analyst at Wilton Re. She is pursuing her Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation.
Beyond her professional career, Ms. Allen is dedicated to community service and industry development. She serves on the Bermuda College Insurance Advisory Board, co-founded the Actuaries of Bermuda, and contributes to the Bermuda International Long-Term Insurers and Reinsurers (BILTIR) Social Impact Committee. She also co-leads the mentorship module for the Insurance-Linked Securities (ILS) Education and Outreach Committee. She serves as a Board member and Treasurer for Crime Stoppers Bermuda. Her dedication to excellence, leadership, and community impact reflects the transformative power of Bermuda College’s dual enrollment program, making her a well-deserving honoree.
Andesha Busby is recognized for her achievements in real estate and property valuation. After completing Bermuda College’s Intro to Real Estate course in 2015, she pursued further studies, earning a BSc in Real Estate from the University of Reading, supported by a Government of Bermuda Public Service Bursary and a Hamilton Parish Council Scholarship.
She gained hands-on experience at the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) in the UK and became a Chartered Surveyor (RICS) in 2022. Returning to Bermuda, she now serves as Designate Valuer at the Land Valuation Department, providing expert property assessments.
Andesha’s journey exemplifies the power of APACE programs in fostering professional success, making her a deserving honoree.
Craig Simmons is honoured for his contributions to education, economics, and Bermuda’s financial landscape. A proud Bermuda College graduate, he returned as a lecturer, inspiring students for decades with his engaging teaching style and ability to simplify complex economic concepts.
Widely recognized as a leading economic commentator, Mr. Simmons provides valuable insights on financial policies and economic developments, cementing his role as a trusted voice in public discourse. His dedication to lifelong learning and community service exemplifies Bermuda College's mission, making him a truly deserving honoree.
Marie Franklin is celebrated for her extraordinary 40-year career at Bermuda College, where she played a pivotal role in the institution’s growth. Beginning in 1978 at the College’s original Robert’s Avenue campus, she advanced from Accounts Clerk in the Bursar’s Office to become the College’s authority on compensation and benefits.
Beyond her technical skills, Ms. Franklin was known for her kindness, warmth, and unwavering dedication to her colleagues. She served as a mentor and source of support for generations of employees. Since her retirement in 2018, her legacy continues to inspire. Her unwavering dedication to Bermuda College and its community makes her a distinguished honoree at the 50th Anniversary Gala.

Only those holding tickets will be allowed seating under the tent. Tickets can be collected at the SERR Desk, 2nd Floor, College Centre between 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. from Monday May 13.
The official graduation list will be posted on May 9 and can be viewed at the SERR counter. All graduands will be expected to attend the ceremony and the rehearsal.

Benjamin Dylan Hollis, better known as B. Dylan Hollis, was born September 7, 1995 and is a Bermudian -American social media celebrity and baker whose videos sometimes showcase his Bermuda roots. He is best known for his TikTok videos where he makes, samples, and comments on unusual vintage American recipes. He has over 10 million followers on the platform and well over 2 million subscribers on YouTube. Hollis has appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show, and his first cookbook, Baking Yesteryear, was released in July 2023 by Penguin Random House, debuting at #1 on The New York Times Best Sellers list...

Graduands are to wear an academic cap and gown, and will wear either a hood (for associate degrees and diplomas) or a stole (for certificates). Gowns, hoods, and stoles may be purchased from the College Bookstore at any time after you have been officially notified and you have paid the $110 graduation fee. Note: this fee is in addition to the $90 graduation application fee required. Cap and gown - $75, Hood or stole - $35. The College Bookstore has extended its hours and will be open on Saturday, May 11 between 10 a.m. – 12 noon, and Monday – Wednesday, May 13 – 15 from 8:45 a.m. – 6 p.m. Visit the Bookstore tent on the field to purchase flowers and refreshments. Open from 1 p.m. Bermuda College is an eco-friendly school - graduation balloons are strongly discouraged!
Individual photos will be taken in the school gym. Please wear/bring your cap and gown and note the available times. No appointment is needed. Photo will be taken on a first come-first served basis.
