Energise Your Life!
Would you like more energy and vitality? Do you want to raise your awareness and quality of life? Are you ready for Change? YES?................
"How do you use or abuse your energy?" is a question that Caroline Shola Arewa, the founder of Energy 4 Life® often asks as an introduction to her life changing wellness programme. You might well ask in response, "What exactly do you mean by abuse?" Perhaps a more helpful question might be: "What is energy?"
You may not know much about quantum physics but most people have heard of Einstein’s equation [E = MC squared]. Very simply translated as, energy can convert to mass and mass can covert to energy. The gist being that everything is energy. Everything you see and touch when broken into subatomic particles consists of vibrating energy in the form of either gas, liquid or solid
The universe is made up of many different types of energy. Heat and light are two fundamental energies that support life. The food we eat has energy that we convert into life force. Every thought and action is a form of energy and everything, and everyone we come into contact with in our daily lives has an energetic influence on us.
Just as, if you stood at the edge of a circular pool and dropped a pebble into the water, the ripples created would radiate out from the centre until it reached the outer edges of the circle. We are like this pebble, having a similar effect of energy vibration not only on own small circle of influence, but on the wider world and the universe.
From the moment we are conceived, we tap into the universal life force that provides the energy that activates all our bodily functions. However, the life force with which we are born, is finite, measured from the moment of our first breath to our last and the manner in which we live our life has a direct effect on its state. There are many things you can do to cultivate, accumulate and store this precious energy, for optimum health.
In Ayurveda and Kundalini yoga the idea is that prana, (which can be thought of literally as breath, but also metaphorically as life energy) flows through energy centres called chakras and nadis points or nadirs, and that health is based to a large degree on the proper flow of prana through the body (1). Yogic exercises are used to promote the healthy flow of prana.
In Chinese medicine we also find the idea that there is a non-physical energy component of the human body, which they call qi, that can be regulated by the healing art of Qigong and acupuncture and exercises in martial arts like Tai Chi Chaun.
So back to the initial question of, firstly, "how do you use your energy?" An example of a response might be, "I choose to see each new day as a gift for which I am truly grateful". This will have an impact on the way I respond to people and situations I encounter during the day and likewise how they will interact with me, with hopefully, "good vibrations". This will have an impact on my emotional, mental, physical and spiritual well-being.
Secondly, "How do you abuse your energy?" Think of the ways your behaviour might have a negative impact on your health, relationships, lifespan, et cetera. An example might be getting caught up in other peoples’ life drama and trying fix it for them. The resulting stress may have a detrimental effect on your health.
Learning about energy provides us with a guide for maximum health and fulfilment. Energy 4 Life® is a natural healthcare system and conscious living programme that activates and elevates your core energy. It works with the human energy system (HES) and chakras which regulate the flow of energy through the body.
This powerful energetic approach raises consciousness and coaches you to live a healthy, happy and successful life in the midst of our changing world. Each modality in E4L is based on one of the four elements: earth, water, fire and air helping us re-connect with the energising rhythms of nature.
If you want to take a powerful step in the direction of health, happiness and fulfilment, join us at Spirit House to explore more of the Energy 4 Life® practices which was introduced by Ms. Shola Arewa at our Spring Semester Forum & Lunch

The Business of Ageing - Towards a Manifesto
For me the past two weeks have been difficult, challenging, perhaps even hair raising. In the care of two Cuban surgeons my mother underwent a complicated surgical procedure that normally would be unimaginable for a ninety-seven year old body.
Setting aside the agonizing personal moral dilemma that signing-off on this undertaking provoked for an only child, this experience has made me stop and reassess much of my taken for granted assumptions about living, dying, and the care of bodies and spirits that will inevitably age and decline.
Thankfully, things have been made easier by knowing that the choices that were made reflect my mother's firmly held values and her disposition.
Yet, gentle SLC members, please indulge me as I share some of my thoughts. As I explained previously the militant anti-discriminatory position adopted by the Cuban surgeons profoundly affected my thinking. They explained that while age is influential it is not the primary consideration. That certainly puts paid to the frequently offered "Well considering her/his age...."
