Programme (Part 1* Introducing the Business Environment) The first step in your journey towards becoming chartered. The Foundation Programme provides a broad introduction to businesses, how they are governed, maintained and financially managed, and the laws to which they must adhere.
Students without a background in law, finance or governance start with the Foundation Programme to learn the key knowledge and skills to prepare you for Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) Qualifying Programme.
The content underpins the knowledge required for the Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme and paves your way to becoming chartered. The four parts are:
- Part 1 Introducing the Business Environment
- Part 2 Introduction to Corporate and Business Law
- Part 3 Principals of Company Compliance and Administration
- Part 4 Introduction to Finance and Accounting
You will gain a better understanding of how businesses are organised and run and how the external environment affects business activities; the fundamentals of corporate and business (commercial) law and the legal framework within which businesses operate; legal, ownership and management structures for companies, how companies are incorporated and routine company compliance and governance obligations; and the basics of bookkeeping and how to understand the components of financial documentation as well as the principles of financial decision making.
