Course Description
The Certificate for Intellectual Disability Aid Programme will provide the healthcare and education team with the necessary skills to support and deliver the highest quality of client-centered care to those impacted by an intellectual disability.
The goal of the certification is to provide the knowledge and practical skills to advance the care, become experts in the field, and enhance the quality of life of those with an intellectual disability.

Course Objectives
- To increase the effectiveness of services rendered to ID clients
- To establish standards, competencies, and professional development for ID team members
- To enhance the skills and competence of those employed in ID
Some of the topics that will be covered are as follows:
- Understanding your role on the interdisciplinary team
- Client centred care
- Understanding and protecting the rights of those with intellectual disabilities
- Supporting independence
- Duty of care, professionalism, attitudes, and professional development
Pre-requisites
This course is for Certified Nursing Assistants, Nurses, Paraprofessionals, and Educators.
