Bermuda College to honour dozens in "Built to Last" Celebration

Bermuda College will honour almost 30 individuals in a special ceremony recognising the people who have helped to quite literally build Bermuda.

The event is the latest phase of the College’s Built to Last campaign, launched earlier this year to highlight the importance of skilled trades on the island.

The campaign celebrates Bermuda College alumni, as well as former employees, who enrolled in technical education and have gone on to make significant contributions in their fields and communities.

Four Bermuda-based companies will also be honoured for their support of technical, culinary, and hospitality education in Bermuda.

One former Bermuda College Foundation Chair, Mark Berry, and the current Chair of the BCF, Gary Madeiros, will be recognised for their longstanding contributions to the College’s development.

Bermuda College President, Dr. David Sam, who initiated the campaign, said the event will spotlight the accomplishments of alumni, former employees, and community partners.

“These are people whose work in trades, culinary arts, hospitality, and technical education has made a real difference in Bermuda’s development,” Dr. Sam said.

Dr. Sam added: “This is about celebrating those contributions but also inspiring a new generation to see the trades as a meaningful and rewarding path.”

Numerous nominations were submitted and carefully reviewed by a college selection committee.

The panel included Karmeta Hendrickson, Support Staff President; Dr. Teneika Eve, Faculty Association Chair; Joseph Weeks, Interim Technical Education Chair; and Necheeka Trott, Assistant to the President for Strategic and Special Projects.

The honourees will be recognised at a special event designed to celebrate their achievements and encourage the next generation to consider careers in the trades.

The event is by invitation only and will be held on October 8 at Bermuda College. It will also be streamed live on the College’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.
