Bermuda College Signs engineering agreement with US University

Bermuda College has signed a new agreement with a US university to offer Bermudians a chance to further their education in engineering.

The College has established an articulation agreement with the Herff College of Engineering at the University of Memphis — the most comprehensive articulation agreement signed by the College in the engineering field.

It allows Bermuda College students who have completed an Associate of Science degree to transfer credits towards a specific Bachelor’s degree programme in areas including electrical, civil, mechanical, and computer engineering.

Dr. David Sam, President of Bermuda College, said: “By fostering strong articulation pathways, the College will ensure that educational programmes are aligned with industry needs, producing graduates who are workforce-ready and equipped with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge that employers demand today.

“Furthermore, from an institutional perspective, articulation agreements foster collaboration between academia and industry, which is crucial for ensuring the relevance of the curriculum.”

The deal with the University of Memphis is the 41st overseas agreement signed by the College. It has forged partnerships with accredited colleges and universities in Canada, the UK, US, and the West Indies/Caribbean, creating transfer pathways for Bermudian students to further their studies abroad.

Dr. Ali Arouzi, Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs at the College, added: “These agreements are designed to create clear, efficient pathways for students to transition smoothly from Associate to Bachelor’s degrees and beyond.

“By streamlining credit transfer processes and aligning curricula, the agreements reduce barriers that often delay student progress. Students are more likely to complete their programmes on time, with less financial worry, and with greater confidence in their career paths.”

He added: “The importance of the Memphis agreement extends beyond individual student success. It serves as a strategic tool to address the pressing skills gap faced by the engineering and technical sectors.

“As Bermuda College continues through these types of collective efforts, it will establish a complete network of pathways that empowers students, strengthens industry partnerships, and enhances the institution’s reputation.”
