College Mourns Once Again - Honorary Fellow Joe Johnson

Mr. Johnson achieved and maintained phenomenal success as a businessman. Some of his more notable achievements include his service as a former president of insurance/reinsurance giant American International Ltd.; a former chairman of the Bank of Bermuda (HSBC); former president of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce and chairman of its international companies division; past chairman and former director of IPC Holdings Ltd and IPCRe Limited. He was the longest-serving employee and head of Starr International Company (70 years), and more recently as director of Bermudian-based Starr Insurance & Reinsurance Ltd. Most notably, he will be remembered as having been a part of the negotiating team for Bermuda’s landmark tax treaty with the United States, when he served as senator during Sir John Swan’s premiership.

He leaves to mourn his wife Gigi. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. In his memory, the Bermuda College flag will be flown at half-mast beginning today, Tuesday, December 3.
