Bermuda College Receives Presidential Citation from the American Psychological Association

APA Citation BC Jan 23

Bermuda College has received a presidential citation from the American Psychological Association for its dedication to providing quality higher education programmes to its community. It was also recognised for prioritising overall mental and physical wellbeing and continuity of care to employees and students through challenges brought on by the pandemic.

The distinction came recently as the international organisation hosted a series of workshops for Bermuda College students, Bermuda Psychology Association (BPA) members and local practitioners at Bermuda College. A networking reception was held at the end of the event.

Dr. Thema Bryant, APA President, in awarding the citation, told Bermuda College President, Dr. Duranda Greene, that the APA recognised the College’s “critical national leadership in higher education and (its) ongoing service and support for students and employees throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bermuda College is committed to serving its students through numerous academic and workforce development programmes on the Island and through the more than 30 partnerships it has established with four-year institutions, overseas,” Dr. Bryant said.

“Notably, Bermuda College took great measures to support both staff and students throughout the … global pandemic … to ensure students and staff had access to the resources required to engage in virtual learning, raising over $800,000 of additional financial aid (via its Foundation) to assist students and offering wellness content online to support mental and physical wellbeing. Crucially, Bermuda College Counselling & Career Centre counsellors also completed TeleMental Health Training to ensure continuity of care.”

The APA also awarded the College with $1500 for use in the purchase of psychological science books and media to augment the current inventory available in the College library.
