Bermuda College Annual Report charts growth, opportunities and wider impact

It has been another successful year for Bermuda College, with rising enrolment, new academic opportunities, stronger international partnerships and continued investment in students, programmes and the campus.

The College’s 2025–26 Annual Report brings those developments together, offering a wider look at what has been happening across Bermuda’s only post-secondary higher education institution and where it is heading next.

Some of the numbers tell the story immediately.

Enrolment increased by 5% to 592 students, while full-time equivalents rose by 10% to 534. The College recorded 105 graduates, compared with 96 the previous year, and the proportion of graduates going overseas after completing their studies increased from 37% to 48%.

Impact greater than just enrolment

But the report also shows that the College’s impact extends well beyond enrolment and graduation figures.

Across its academic divisions, departments, professional education programmes and student services, the College has recorded new initiatives, partnerships and achievements.

Their individual reports provide a closer look at the work taking place throughout Bermuda College and the progress being made in classrooms and laboratories, through student support and professional training, and across the wider community.

One area of particular growth is the connection between Bermuda College programmes and the opportunities available to students after they leave.

More partnerships

The College now has more than 40 articulation agreements with overseas colleges and universities, allowing eligible students to begin their higher education in Bermuda before continuing towards further qualifications abroad.

Among the new pathways is an articulation agreement with the University of Memphis’ Herff College of Engineering, giving Bermuda College students structured routes into bachelor’s degrees in biomedical, civil, electrical, computer and mechanical engineering.

A partnership with the Business, Hospitality, Management School in Switzerland also provides Bermuda College graduates in hospitality management and culinary arts with a route into the final year of relevant bachelor’s programmes, combining further academic study with paid industry training.

Closer to home, the College is strengthening the connection between education and one of Bermuda’s most important international industries.

Helping international business

A new Associate of Arts degree in insurance has been introduced, supported by the appointment of Catherine Duffy as professor of the practice. With more than 30 years of international insurance experience, Ms Duffy brings extensive industry knowledge to the College as it develops a stronger academic pathway into Bermuda’s insurance and reinsurance sector.

The programme reflects a broader effort to connect what students learn at Bermuda College with the industries and opportunities around them.

For some students, that connection with Bermuda College begins before they have even finished high school.

Dual enrolment highlighted

Through the College’s dual enrolment programme, high-school students can undertake college-level studies alongside their school requirements, gaining experience of the academic demands and learning environment of higher education while working towards College credits.

Two recent Berkeley Institute students demonstrated just how far that opportunity can go. Both completed associate degrees with distinction at Bermuda College while still in high school, then progressed to universities overseas. For one, the credits earned through Bermuda College meant entering university at sophomore level.

Their experiences show how dual enrolment can give students an early start on higher education while developing greater independence, confidence and time-management skills before they leave Bermuda.

Opportunities beyond the College

Opportunities are expanding for the wider community too.

Through a partnership with Google, approximately 500 scholarships are available to Bermuda residents for Grow with Google courses through 31 December 2027. The flexible programmes cover areas including cybersecurity, data analytics, IT support, digital marketing, project management and Python automation.

Professional and continuing education remained another significant part of the College’s reach.

The Athora Division of Professional and Career Education, APACE, supported almost 1,000 learners during the reporting year through professional certificates, workforce development programmes and corporate training.

Its work ranged from artificial intelligence and data analytics to compliance, corporate governance, food safety, fitness, healthcare and leadership development.

APACE also gained international recognition with an Innovation Award from the Learning Resources Network for continuing education marketing.

International connections expanded through its partnership with the Human Rights Education Network and The Geneva Graduate Institute. Students from Switzerland were welcomed to collaborate with Bermuda College students, while Bermuda College students are due to travel to Geneva in autumn 2026 as part of the College’s first outbound exchange programme.

Reaching a younger audience

Learning opportunities also reached a much younger audience during the year.

Bermuda College introduced LaunchPad, its first summer programme for children aged eight to 12, allowing participants to explore science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics through hands-on learning.

The Division of Arts and Sciences also hosted Roche Science Week and marked another first when a MARSCI student completed an internship with Dolphin Quest.

The same division celebrated 29 graduates during the spring 2026 Commencement exercises, with eight graduating with distinction.

Supporting students throughout their time at the College remained another important part of the year.

During 2025–26, the Counselling and Career Centre reported 1,723 student contacts across services including accessibility, counselling, student life, career services and UK transfer advising.

Health-related programmes also continued to support students preparing for careers and further study. During the fall 2025 semester, 67 students were enrolled in programmes administered by the relevant division, while a further 26 pre-nursing students received academic advising and pathway support.

Behind many of these opportunities is continued investment in the College itself.

Bermuda College received $862,435 in grant disbursements from the Bermuda College Foundation during the 2025–26 fiscal year.

That funding supported classroom renovations, scholarships and student financial assistance, learning resources, the Science Division and Student Centre, as well as the work of the Youth Mental Health Plan team.

The College also continued to invest in its technology and physical infrastructure, while maintaining a strong focus on the quality of its academic provision.

Bermuda College has been accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education since 2010 and completed the comprehensive evaluation visit forming part of its reaccreditation process during the reporting year.

Individual programmes also reached important milestones.

The Culinary Arts Programme received reaccreditation from the American Culinary Federation for a further five years, while the Bermuda College Associate Nursing Programme received initial accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing for a five-year term.

Taken individually, each represents a programme, partnership, statistic or milestone.

Taken together, they tell a much bigger story.

The Annual Report shows a College working across many fronts at once – supporting students on campus, giving high-school students an earlier start on higher education, creating routes to universities overseas, responding to Bermuda’s workforce needs, opening learning to people at different stages of their lives and investing in the programmes and infrastructure needed for the future.

And there is considerably more behind the numbers.
