Dr David A. Fiifi Sam began his tenure as President of Bermuda College, Bermuda, in August 2024. In this role, he is actively collaborating with stakeholders to elevate the College and foster a new standard of excellence. Prior to this position, he served for 17½ years as President of Elgin Community College (ECC) in Illinois, where he is President Emeritus. Before that, he was President of Lone Star College-North Harris, Texas; Dean, Community and Technical College and Professor of Social Science and Business Management, University of Akron, Ohio; Vice President, Faculty and Instruction, Harrisburg Area Community College, Pennsylvania; Acting Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean, Natural and Social Sciences at Mott Community College, Michigan; and Assistant Professor and Coordinator of International Studies at the College of DuPage, Illinois.

During his tenure, ECC was named a Top 25 Community College of Excellence by the Aspen Institute in 2023 and was previously recognised among the Top 150 Colleges in 2015, 2019, and 2021. The College received Achieving the Dream’s Leader College designation in 2012 and Leader College of Distinction in 2022. In 2009, he led a $178 million campus transformation referendum. ECC earned Aaa and AA+ ratings from Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s beginning in 2009 and 2010. Most importantly, 57 per cent of all degrees and certificates granted in ECC’s 75-year history were awarded during his presidency.

A native of Ghana, Dr Sam has outstanding academic credentials. He earned a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, with honours in both Political Science and History, as well as a Bachelor of Science, cum laude, in Economics from Illinois State University. He holds a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy and a PhD in International Relations from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University. Additionally, he holds an MBA in Finance and Marketing from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Akron Law School, and a Master of Laws (LLM) in Energy Law and Policy, with distinction, from the University of Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom.

Dr Sam serves on the Board of Governors of the Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies. He is an ex officio member of the Bermuda College Board of Governors and serves on the Bermuda College Foundation Board of Directors. Previously, he served on the boards of St. Charles Bank & Trust and the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce, where he chaired the latter from May 2015 to January 2017. He was the 2023/24 President-Elect of the Rotary Club of Elgin and the 2023/24 Chair of the Illinois Council of Community College Presidents. As an attorney, he is a member of the District of Columbia Bar and the American Bar Association. His recognitions include: Illinois State University (ISU) 2026 Alumni Achievement Award; ISU Department of Economics Luminary Award; National Council for Marketing & Public Relations’ National Pacesetter of the Year; ISU College of Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame; Phi Theta Kappa’s Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction for Outstanding College Presidents; Judson University’s D. Ray Wilson Volunteer Service Award; Illinois Community College Trustees Association’s Gary W. Davis Ethical Leadership Award; and Rotary International Club’s Paul Harris Fellow.

Dr Sam was married to his late wife, Julie, for 36 years. Together, they raised two children, and family remains a central pillar in his life.

The Assistant to the President for Strategic and Special Projects is a member of the College’s executive team and serves as a strategic adviser to the President in advancing the institution’s vision and priorities. The role provides executive-level leadership, coordination, and oversight for high-impact initiatives, special projects, and cross-departmental efforts that strengthen the College’s operations, visibility, partnerships, and overall institutional effectiveness.

Working closely with the President and fellow members of the executive team, the Assistant to the President helps translate strategic priorities into action by leading complex projects, fostering institutional collaboration, supporting planning and implementation efforts, and building relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Through thoughtful leadership and focused execution, the role helps position the College for continued growth, innovation, and community impact.

Dr Ali Arouzi is the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Professor of Mathematics. As Chief Academic Officer, he oversees academic policies and programmes that support Bermuda College’s mission. In addition, Dr Arouzi provides leadership across the College’s academic operations, including strategic planning, budgeting, curriculum and programme development, articulation agreements, and accreditation, to ensure academic excellence and student success.

As Vice President for Student Affairs, Nikkita supports student success by providing leadership for the services and resources that guide students from their first connection with the College through graduation and lifelong engagement. Her areas of responsibility include Recruitment; Student Enrolment, Registration and Records; Financial Support Services; the Centre for Learning and Academic Success; Counselling and Student Activities; the Bermuda College Library; the Testing and Assessment Centre; and Alumni Engagement and Development.

Nikkita also serves as the College’s Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO), ensuring that the College's academic and student support practices meet the standards of the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) and reflect the ongoing commitment to quality, equity, and continuous improvement.

As Chief Financial and Business Development Officer, Scott provides strategic leadership for the College’s financial direction, business operations, and growth initiatives. With a focus on long-term sustainability and institutional innovation, he ensures the College’s financial foundations remain strong, resilient, and aligned with its mission.

Scott has executive oversight of finance and operations, guiding the effective stewardship of institutional resources. As a member of the Executive Team, he helps shape and execute strategies that drive operational excellence, organisational growth, and continuous improvement.

In addition to financial leadership, Scott plays a central role in advancing business development efforts. He cultivates strategic partnerships, identifies new revenue opportunities, and supports initiatives that enhance the College’s capacity to serve students and the wider community. Through this integrated approach, he contributes to strengthening the institution’s ability to deliver transformative educational experiences while ensuring long-term financial sustainability.

Cleun Gaiton is an accomplished facilities management professional with more than 15 years of experience leading complex operations, infrastructure initiatives, and capital improvement projects across Bermuda’s educational sector. As Director of Facilities at Bermuda College, he is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and development of campus facilities, ensuring safe, efficient, and sustainable learning environments.

Throughout his career, Mr Gaiton has played a significant role in projects spanning the entire Bermuda public school education system, contributing to the modernisation, enhancement, and long-term stewardship of educational facilities across the island. His expertise encompasses facilities operations, project management, asset and energy management, and stakeholder engagement.

Recognised for his practical leadership style and commitment to operational excellence, Mr Gaiton has successfully managed multidisciplinary teams and complex initiatives that support institutional goals while delivering measurable value to students, educators, and the broader community. He remains dedicated to advancing best practice in facilities management and creating environments that foster learning, innovation, and organisational success.

Mr Riley is the Institutional Research Analyst at Bermuda College. He is primarily responsible for compiling and analysing data, and producing reports and trend analyses that support College leadership in decision-making. He also assists in strategic planning and policy development. His role serves as the data backbone of the College, ensuring that College administrators, faculty, government agencies, and international agencies have the accurate information necessary to operate effectively.

Belinda Darrell serves as the Executive Administrative Assistant to the President of Bermuda College. In this role, she provides high-level administrative and executive support to the Office of the President, assisting with daily operations, scheduling, communications, meeting coordination, and institutional matters requiring the President's attention.

Ms Darrell also provides administrative support to the Bermuda College Board of Governors, assisting with meeting coordination, document preparation, communications, and governance-related matters. Through her professionalism, attention to detail, and commitment to service, she supports the smooth and efficient operation of both the President's Office and the Board.

Dr Constance Smith serves as Interim Director of Human Resources and Development, providing leadership for human resources and supporting initiatives that strengthen employee development, organisational effectiveness and institutional capacity.

In addition to her human resources responsibilities, Ms Smith leads the development of articulation agreements with overseas institutions in Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States and the West Indies, helping to expand academic pathways for Bermuda College students.

Dr Smith also manages the flagship on-island bachelor’s degree programme, the Mount Saint Vincent University Bachelor of Business Administration, offered in association with Bermuda College.
