Certificate for Nursing Assistants Programme Overview
The Certificate for Nursing Assistants was developed in collaboration with the Bermuda Nursing Council. It prepares participants with the prerequisites needed to become registered with the Bermuda Nursing Council as nursing assistants in the health care industry. Participants will cover topics such as Vital signs; Medical Terminology, Caring for Seniors and others in Need of Medical Care; Professional Regulations, Legal and Ethical Issues in the Health Care Industry.
Students will be prepared to work in health care agencies such as long-term care centres, hospitals, rehabilitation care facilities, hospices, clinics, adult day care centres, and community health. Students entering this programme must be proficient in English and mathematics. Potential students will be assessed. Those needing support in English and or Math must successfully complete these requirements prior to enrolling in the programme.

First Semester
Certificate for Nursing AssistantsCCW 810$1795.00 The Certificate for Nursing Assistants programme prepares participants to become registered Nursing Assistants with the Bermuda Nursing Council. This is a competency-based programme in which participants will demonstrate evidence of their learning under the watchful eyes of certified professional nurses. The practical experiences will take place throughout the programme in the Bermuda College Clinical Lab and in approved healthcare settings. This is a two-semester programme. Participants will cover topics such as vital signs, medical terminology, caring for seniors and others in need of medical care, professional regulations, and legal and ethical issues around the health care industry. There are internships in an approved clinical setting. Those entering this programme must be proficient in English and mathematics. Potential students will be assessed.

Second Semester
Nursing Assistant Practical CCW 820$1795.00 This module blends the practical and theoretical activities of nursing assisting, covering such topics as: taking vital signs, CPR, manual handling and more. The clinical provides practical, hands-on experiences in a diverse group of approved healthcare settings under the supervision of a certified nurse. This includes practical experience one weekend each month as well as a one-week, full-time clinical near the end of the programme. Pre-requisite CCW 810

Clinical Practicum The clinical provides practical, hands-on experiences in a diverse group of approved healthcare settings under the supervision of a certified nurse. This takes place one weekend each month, followed by a one-week, full-time clinical near the end of the programme. Pre-requisite CCW 810 & CCW 820

Requirements
Those entering this programme must demonstrate proficiency in English and Math with proof of one of the following:
CPT Scores meet the minimum requirement
Reading: 249
Sentence: 3-4
Elementary Algebra: 237
An extended grade of C or above in Extended IGCSE Math and English
IB scores of 5 and above in Math and English
AP scores of 4 and above in Math and English
College Level English and Math
An Associate’s Degree or higher

Police Vetting Report from Bermuda Police Services
Hair Follicle Drug Screening (Employee Health Services, King Edward Memorial Hospital only)
Proof of valid Health Insurance
Tuberculosis (TB) Test
Hepatitis B Test and/or Shot as Required
Tetanus Shot
Influenza Shot
SCARS Training
Regular Covid-19 Testing
American Heart Foundation 2-person Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED)
