American Management Association AMA

Programme Overview


Certificate programmes by the American Management Association have been developed by industry leaders and backed by more than 75 years of management training experience.

The certificate programmes encompass all areas of contemporary management including supervision, human resources, manufacturing, finance, sales, marketing and planning. The courseware delivers comprehensive training and real-world answers.

Certificates are earned over two semesters. Entrance is accepted in the Fall (September) and Spring (January) semesters. Candidates interested in earning their AMA certificates must successfully complete 10 Continuing Education Units. Each module completed is equivalent to 2 CEUs earned. Delegates must complete the core course and select any of the electives offered in any given semester to make up the 10 CEUs.


Certificate in Human Resources (AMA 74)


The Certificate in Human Resources is a guide to every aspect of human resource management from understanding the basic HR functions to using the Web for recruiting and selecting the latest HRIS.

The Medical Billing & Coding Programme Outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify the important role of a medical coder in upholding ethical billing practices and in obtaining reimbursement for healthcare services.
  • Correctly use the ICD-10-CM for diagnostic coding.
  • Correctly use CPT codes for coding medical procedures.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Programme

 

Programme Overview


The Emergency Medical Technician Programme prepares graduates to initiate assessment and care of the ill or injured patient. After successful completion of the programme, each graduate must succeed at the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) practical and computer based knowledge examinations. This programme provides opportunity to prepare for entry-level positions in the Emergency Medical Services profession for possible employment in a variety of pre-hospital, hospital, Fire and Rescue Services and industrial settings.



  • Course Date – January 20, 2026 - June 16, 2026
  • Days: Tuesday and Thursday
  • Time: 6:00 - 9:00 PM
  • 35 hour Practicum schedule to be determined

OBJECTIVES    


To provide an Introductory Course for those wishing to pursue a career in pre-hospital medicine To continue to establish a career pathway for health care that meets the needs of the community: 
Nursing Assistant > EMT> Paramedic > Registered Nurse.


The definition of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is:  “An individual who has successfully completed the U.S. DOT’s (Department of Transportation) EMT National Standard Training Program or its equivalent and approved by a state emergency medical services program or other authorized agency. The curriculum for the EMT – Basic (EMT) deals with the assessment and care of the ill or injured patient”.   


CURRICULUM


Educational focus is on personal safety, safety of the crew, patient and bystanders, patient assessment, patient care, lifting and moving, transport, transfer of care and patient advocacy. Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive emergency team. The EMT course is a 14 week course with theoretical and practical components. The practical component will be in the classroom initially and then in the clinical setting – on the ambulance(s) and the Emergency Department.


REQUIREMENTS


All persons applying to the EMT programme must:

  • Be 18 years and older
  • Be physically fit

Those entering this programme must demonstrate proficiency in English and Math with proof of one of the following:

  1. CPT Scores meeting the minimum requirement
    • Reading: 249
    • Sentence: 3-4
    • Elementary Algebra: 237
  2. An extended grade of C or above in Extended IGCSE Math and English
  3. IB scores of 5 and above in Math and English
  4. AP scores of 4 and above in Math and English
  5. College Level English and Math
  6. An Associate’s Degree or higher


Proof of one of the above must be provided to the PACE Division before one may register.

  • Visit www.accuplacer.org to prepare for the CPT assessment.

Next Steps

  1. Submit a PACE Registration form along with the acceptance letter to the Student Enrolment Registration and Records (SERR) Office.
  2. Submit payment to the Business Office.
  3. Purchase your textbooks from the Bermuda College Bookstore.
  4. Submit your Police Records and Medical certificates (detailed below) to the PACE office no later than 2 weeks prior to the course.


The following screenings and certificates are mandatory for all students in the programme. Screenings are available at the Health Department, King Edward Memorial Hospital or your private doctor:

  1. Police Vetting Report from bermuda Police Services
  2. Hair Follicle Drug Screening (Employee Health Services, King Edward Memorial Hospital only)
  3. Proof of valid Health Insurance
  4. Tuberculosis (TB) Test
  5. Hepatitis B Test and/or Shot as Required
  6. Tetanus Shot
  7. Influenza Shot
  8. SCARS Training
  9. Regular Covid-19 Testing
  10. American Heart Foundation 2-person Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED)


Please note that students will not be permitted to enrol in the programme without having furnished evidence of successful completion of all the above screenings as they are mandatory requirements for all who work in the local hospitals or licensed government health care facilities.

Please also note that the Bermuda Hospitals Board and the Bermuda Government reserve the right to refuse access to any individual deemed to be unsuitable to work in Bermuda’s local health care facilities.

Course Description


The Certificate for Intellectual Disability Aid Programme will provide the healthcare and education team with the necessary skills to support and deliver the highest quality of client-centered care to those impacted by an intellectual disability.

The goal of the certification is to provide the knowledge and practical skills to advance the care, become experts in the field, and enhance the quality of life of those with an intellectual disability.
