Congratulations are in order as the Athene Career Development Centre was recently named the winner in the Commercial and Interior Design section of The Bermudian magazine. Prestigious architectural firm, OBMI worked collaboratively with the Bermuda College Foundation, and a Bermuda College project steering committee, led by Dr. Greene and Facilities Manager, Cleun Gaiton, to complete the 7,500 square feet, $3.8 million renovation project in approximately two years.

The Foundation secured funding through the generous donations of re/insurance companies Athene, Athora, Aspen, and Catalina, and the three-pronged effort was launched in earnest, in 2021.

The design of the space was deliberately aligned with the existing architectural style, so that the building blended well with the rest of the campus, and provided a model that would be sustainable for future architectural projects, according to principal OBMI architect, Colin Campbell. Ironically, Bermuda College alumna, Vanessa Bean, was the lead interior designer from OBMI. She worked closely with BC graphic designer, Cherie Richardson for the award winning interior design, earning specific praise from judges for its “dynamic colours … and inspiring quotations … a compelling start to (students’) educational journey”.

OBMI, is the oldest architectural company in Bermuda. It is self-described as a “global master planning, architecture and design firm, with a rich history of shaping the architectural landscape of Bermuda.”

The electronic version of the magazine is not yet available. Pick up your personal copy of The Bermudian to see the full article and photos.
