Bermuda College Commencement 2018

Bermuda College traditionally launches the Island’s school graduation calendar, and today is no different, as 124 graduates of Bermuda College – 54 percent with honours; and 56 percent males – will receive associate degrees, diplomas or certificates.

Government MP for Devonshire East, the Hon T. Christopher Famous, JP MP, will deliver the Commencement address. A Bermuda College alumnus (Class of ’89), Mr. Famous is a proud graduate of the automotive certificate programme, and well known for his socio-political commentary in local media.

Of special note, Thursday’s ceremonies will also witness the first cohort of 16 graduates of the Certificate of Applied Technology programme, all of whom are dual enrolment students from either The Berkeley Institute or CedarBridge Academy.

Dr. Trescot Wilson, Dean of the Division of Business Administration, Hospitality & Technical Education, which traditionally yields the largest number of graduates, praised both the technology programme and the pioneering students.

“Technical and vocation education is the way of the future to enhance sustained development in any country. The Certificate in Applied Science & Technology at Bermuda College serves many purposes. For some, they offer opportunities to further their careers and earning power. For others, they offer careers in hands-on industries which do not require traditional four-year academic training. For still others, they offer a way to enrich the high school experience, prepare for college and earn college credits, all at the same time. Today I can attest to the fact that these 16 graduates have already shortened their freshman year, earned college credits from an accredited institution, have become familiar with college-level expectations and performance, and have learned how to be accountable.”

Six students will receive their baccalaureate degree (Business Administration/Child & Youth Studies) from the College’s historic partnership with Mount Saint Vincent University.
